PopDarts – Incredible New Darts Game (But Not What You Think)

Table of Contents

If you’re anything like me with a teenager or two around the house you will completely understand.
Sullen, know it all faces, grunts in response to questions. Welcome to being the parent of a teenager lol. So let’s get these troublesome teens off their devices and bring our families together.
I’m off the beaten track talking about pop darts as I normally talk standard darts, but when I saw this game come up in my feed, I knew immediately popdarts was my kind of game.
And when there’s a wigglenobber in the game, I’m in…
So let’s get into answering all the questions I had on popdarts.

What is PopDarts?

Popdarts is a game designed for any aged player where you first throw a target popdart at a suitable surface, the best being these outdoor weatherproof target boards. The aim is to throw your popdarts onto the target to score points by being closest to the bullseye.

Who Goes First?

Rock paper scissors, age low to high, alphabetical order – you decide… Popdarts is a free for all in this sense. Whoever wins the first round decides where the next target will be and

How do you throw PopDarts?

There are 2 good ways to throw a popdart:

Traditional

This is just like a normal dart throw. Hold your popdart in a pencil grip, pull back your hand, aim with an upward trajectory – so that it forms an arc towards the target – and throw.

The tomahawk

Hold your popdart near the front, bring your hand back over your shoulder then throw end over end towards the target.

How Do You Score In PopDart?

  • Closest popdart to the target dart gets 3 points.
  • Other popdarts that stick get 1 point.
  • Any popdart that is touching the target when it lands gets a bonus point.
  • Any Popdart not standing doesn’t count.
  • Take the lowest score from the higher score to get the overall score in that round.
  • Highest scorers choose the next popdart target zone.
  • See “What’s a Wigglenobber” for bonus popdart points.

Who Wins PopDart?

The first team to reach 21 points are the winner.

What’s a Wigglenobber?

You can shout for a wigglenobber if you throw a popdart and it lands and sticks on top of the target. This also doubles your score.

Where to play popdarts?

You can play popdart inside or outside.

Indoor popdarts:

There are many places around the house to play. The kitchen has a few good surfaces, you can use our fridge and/or freezer or any other appliances. Your cupboard doors and countertops. Windows and glass doors are good to pop your darts onto, basically, anything with a nice smooth surface can be used. What won’t work so well are natural surfaces like wood and stone tiles.

Outdoor popdarts:

The best way to play outside is with the Popdarts Board Edition Set you can find here, this is a one-stop shop for fun. Coming with 2 aluminum, 100% all-weather, boards a set of popdarts, an integral scorer, carry bag for easy transfer and storage.

Nighttime popdarts!

You can also get sets of popdarts that glow in the dark here, this lets you enjoy your fun even when the lights go out. Try with a black light for super bright entertainment.

Takeaways:

  1. Popdarts are a great way to bond as a family, it can be addictive fun. One thing to remember! popdarts is not as easy to play as you might think and to get good you need to practice, practice, practice, practice. Which is a good thing because the more you practice your popdarts, the more time you are spending together as a family.
  2. Playing away from the screen is important for a balanced and healthy life. Engaging with each other is good for mental health and taking a break from technology is helpful for all, especially teens who need to de-stress and re-focus. That’s as good a great reason to play popdarts as anything I can think of.
